Frontier Photography – Carrie Levy
Posted May 20, 2011on:
In You Before All, I continue to use my camera to harshly manipulate my subjects. I introduce two paradoxical states: pain and ecstasy. I contort my subjects to look like victims; however, whether they are victims of pain or pleasure is open to debate.
My role as the photographer is to play the part of the predator. I want the viewer to question my motives as they experience the harm–or pleasure–inflicted on my models. As a female artist and the authority behind this work, I chose solely male subjects in order to enhance the submissive nature of the imagery.
